چکیده

Published emissivity models provide calculated emissivity spectra for a given set of optical constants, view angles and local wind speeds. While these models have gained widespread acceptance, discrepancies have been identified against field measurements obtained from IR Fourier transform spectrometers (FTS) at view angles ≥40°. We therefore have developed an alternative approach for calculating surface-leaving IR radiance that treats both emissivity and atmospheric reflection in a systematic manner. This work overviews the theoretical basis, development and computations of the proposed model. The model is validated using an exhaustive set of FTS field observations acquired at sea. Our analyses show the new model to have improved agreement with observation over standard models.

Surface Emissivity Impact on Temperature and Moisture Soundings from Hyperspectral Infrared Radiance Measurements

An accurate land surface emissivity (LSE) is critical for the retrieval of atmospheric temperature and moisture profiles along with land surface temperature from hyperspectral infrared (IR) sounder radiances; it is also critical to assimilating IR radiances in numerical weather prediction models over land. To investigate the impact of different LSE datasets on Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS...

Errors analysis on temperature and emissivity determination from hyperspectral thermal infrared data.

Sensitivity analysis of temperature-emissivity separation method commonly applied to hyperspectral data to various sources of errors is performed in this paper. In terms of resulting errors in the process of retrieving surface temperature, results show that: (1) Satisfactory results can be obtained for heterogeneous land surfaces and retrieval error of surface temperature is small enough to be ...

Polarized infrared emissivity of one-dimensional Gaussian sea surfaces with surface reflections.

Surface reflection is an important phenomenon that must be taken into account when studying sea surface infrared emissivity, especially at large observation angles. This paper models analytically the polarized infrared emissivity of one-dimensional sea surfaces with shadowing effect and one surface reflection, by assuming a Gaussian surface slope distribution. A Monte Carlo ray-tracing method i...

Radiometric normalization and image mosaic generation of ASTER thermal infrared data: An application to extensive sand sheets and dune fields

Data from the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) have a significant advantage over previous datasets because of the combination of high spatial resolution (15–90 m) and enhanced multispectral capabilities, particularly in the thermal infrared (TIR) atmospheric window (8–12 μm) of the Earth where common silicate minerals are more easily identified. However, th...
